Purpose

This document provides step-by-step instructions for upgrading from Oracle Database and Oracle Grid Infrastructure release 11.2.0.2 BP11 and earlier to 11.2.0.4 on Oracle Exadata Database Machine for Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris x86-64 operating systems. For upgrades to 11.2.0.4 coming from releases later than 11.2.0.2 BP11 see. If you have multiple database homes installed, with at least one of them on 11.2.0.2 BP11 or earlier, then also follow this document. This document does not cover Exadata on SuperCluster.

 Early stage pre-upgrade check: analyze your databases to be upgraded with the Pre-Upgrade Information Tool
 Install and Upgrade Grid Infrastructure to 11.2.0.4
 Create a snapshot based backup of the database server partitions
 Create the new Grid Infrastructure (GI_HOME) directory where 11.2.0.4 will be installed
 Prepare installation software
 Permanently Disable Automatic Memory Management (AMM) for ASM
 Set cluster_interconnects Explicitly for ASM
 Perform the 11.2.0.4 Grid Infrastructure software installation and upgrade using OUI
 Apply the latest Bundle Patch to the Grid Infrastructure Home using 'napply' on all nodes in the cluster.
 Apply Customer-specific 11.2.0.4 One-Off Patches to the Grid Infrastructure Home
 Change Custom Scripts and Environment Variables to Reference the 11.2.0.4 Grid Home
 Modify the dbfs_mount cluster resource
 Install Database 11.2.0.4 Software
 Prepare Installation Software
 Perform 11.2.0.4 Database Software Installation with OUI
 Update OPatch in Database Home on All Database Servers
 Install latest 11.2.0.4 Bundle Patch for Oracle Exadata Database Machine to the Database Home - Do not perform Post-installation steps
