Using Oracle SQL Connector for Hadoop Distributed File System (OSCH) while trying to create an Oracle external table from a Hive table using the ExternalTable tool fails with below error:

oracle.hadoop.exttab.ExternalTableException: Hive error: default.<HIVE_TABLE> table not found
        at oracle.hadoop.exttab.hive.HiveSource.initialize(
        at oracle.hadoop.exttab.hive.HiveSource.getDataSet(

Checking in Hive shows that the <HIVE_TABLE> table does exist.
