Oracle ACFS and Oracle ADVM Do Not Mount After System Restart (Doc ID 1560408.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 04, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version and later
Linux x86-64

1. After the reboots, the following command to mount acfs volumes failed in asm alert.log

ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15477: cannot communicate with the volume driver

2. When checking the acfs drivers, it looks they are not loaded, i.e.

+ASM1:ndhdbqa1:/opt/oracle>lsmod | grep oracle
oracleacfs           1857990  0
oracleadvm            238912  0
oracleoks             330629  2 oracleacfs,oracleadvm

3. rerunning acfsroot install permits to load the acfs drivers (acfsload start don't permits to achieve it), i.e.

+ASM1:ndhdbqa1:/opt/oracle>acfsroot install

then the drivers are loaded

+ASM1:ndhdbqa1:/opt/oracle>lsmod | grep oracle
oracleacfs           1857990  2
oracleadvm            238912  6
oracleoks             330629  2 oracleacfs,oracleadvm

4. when checking the permissions of /dev/asm/.* before running 'acfsroot install', we see wrong permissions (root instead of asmadmin) even when the udev rules look correct.

 ls -l /dev/asm/.asm*
brwxrwx--- 1 root root 252,  0 May 30 08:37 /dev/asm/.asm_ctl_spec

Once acfsroot install is run, the permissions are corrected, i.e.

ls -l /dev/asm/.asm*
brwxrwx--- 1 root asmadmin 252,  0 May 30 08:43 /dev/asm/.asm_ctl_spec

 reboot the system
