ERROR 1271 (HY000): Illegal Mix Of Collations for Operation 'concat' in MySQL 5.1 Versions (Doc ID 1563850.1)

Symptoms

On : 5.1 version, Character Sets and Localization

When attempting to replicate data inserted via a function after character set change,
the following error occurs.

ERROR

ERROR 1271 (HY000): Illegal mix of collations for operation 'concat'


STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Set database character set to utf8
2. Create and replicate a function
3. Insert data using function and check error on slave

BUSINESS IMPACT
-----------------------
The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users cannot easily replicate data after character set change .
