How to prevent spurious characters appearing in the output of DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL in 9.2 and 10.2? (Doc ID 1563971.1)

Last updated on JULY 05, 2017

Applies to:

PL/SQL - Version 9.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.3 [Release 9.2 to 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL can be used to extract SQL which can be used to migrate from earlier releases.

In 9.2 and 10.2 the call to DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL shows that extra characters (STR_RESULT and  ------------) are returned in the result also:

SQL>

STR_RESULT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CREATE OR REPLACE CONTEXT "LT_CTX" USING "WMSYS"."LT_CTX_PKG"

The same extra characters do not appear in 11.2
