RAC: Second Instance Fails to Start With Error ORA-1102 (Doc ID 1579765.1)

Symptoms

Second RAC instance fails to start with error ORA-1102

 

srvctl start database -d <DB_NAME> -o mount
PRCR-1079 : Failed to start resource ora.<DB_NAME>.db
CRS-5017: The resource action "ora.<DB_NAME>.db start" encountered the following error:
ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode
. For details refer to "(:CLSN00107:)" in "<GRID_HOME>/log/<HOSTNAME>/agent/crsd/oraagent_oracle/oraagent_oracle.log".

CRS-2674: Start of 'ora.<DB_NAME>.db' on '<HOSTNAME>' failed
CRS-2632: There are no more servers to try to place resource 'ora.<DB_NAME>.db' on that would satisfy its placement policy

 

Connected to an idle instance.

SQL> startup mount
ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode

 

Starting ORACLE instance (normal)
