Steps to Enable HCatalog in HUE to be Able to Access Hive Data Through Pig Editor (Doc ID 1581957.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 03, 2021

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 2.2.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Purpose

Apache HCatalog is a module in Apache Hive that enables non-Hive scripts to access Hive tables.  HCatalog provides table data access for CDH components such as Pig and MapReduce. Table definitions are maintained in the Hive metastore, which HCatalog requires. HCatalog makes the same table information available to Hive, Pig, MapReduce, and REST clients without having to worry about re-defining the input schemas, or caring about or duplicating the data’s location.

On Oracle Big Data Appliance(BDA) V2.2.* and higher HCatalog is installed by default. Hue uses Beeswax for queries and for accessing the metastore instead of HCatalog.

This document provides steps on how to enable HCatalog in HUE for accessing the Hive tables from the Pig Editor.
