Your MySQL error log may contain a message that looks like this:
InnoDB: Error: tablespace size stored in header is 73465856 pages, but
InnoDB: the sum of data file sizes is 74121216 pages
The actual numbers may be different but the effect is the same. InnoDB thinks you should only have X pages of common tablespace (ibdata files) but your disk actually contains more.
