Purpose

TDE tablespace encryption, part of the Oracle Advanced Security Option, transparently encrypts data stored in application tablespaces, using industry standard encryption algorithms. It provides strong protection from malicious access to database files, and built-in key management.

This document is written for the Database Security Administrator (DSA) or Application DBA whose task it is to automatically and transparently migrate installations from clear-text to encrypted tablespaces. This can be achieved without downtime, without data loss, and transparent to application users and the application itself, leveraging Oracle’s Online Table Redefinition, a mature High-Availability feature of the Oracle Enterprise Edition.

Scope

This document applies to Oracle Database 11gR1, Oracle Database 11gR2 and applications including Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise, Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM 8.2+ and Oracle Retail Sales Audit 13.1
