RDBPROD: Are record changes made in my previous READ WRITE transaction visible in my new READ ONLY transaction? (Doc ID 1592384.1)

Last updated on APRIL 18, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.0.1 and later
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS Itanium

Goal

Rdb provides additional concurrency by using snapshot copies, stored in separate files, but how up-to-date is the data in a READ ONLY transaction? For example, if I perform a series of updates in a READ WRITE transaction will these be available when I start a READ ONLY immediately after?

NOTE: The data used below are not actual PRODUCTION or Customer Data.  They are being used ONLY to demonstrate the problem discussed in this note.
