HBase Region Server Aborting Due To "too Many Open Files" Error (Doc ID 1592450.1)

Symptoms

The HBase Region Servers are aborting due to "too many open files" error.

The global settings at /etc/security/limits.conf for the limit of maximum open files is 131072:

# Oracle-Validated setting for nofile soft limit is 131072
* soft nofile 131072

# Oracle-Validated setting for nofile hard limit is 131072
* hard nofile 131072


However the HBase running process is showing the limit of 32768 for max open files:

[root# cat /proc/<HBASE PID>/limits
