After Oracle Big Data Appliance V2.2 / V2.3 Upgrade Cannot Run Existing Oozie Jobs / Workflows in the Oozie Coordinator (Doc ID 1597208.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 13, 2013

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 2.2.1 and later
Linux x86-64

After upgrading to Oracle Big Data Appliance V2.2.1 (CDH 4.3/CM 4.6.3) or V2.3.1 (CDH 4.4/CM 4.7.2)  existing Oozie jobs / workflows can not be run in the Oozie Coordinator.  You will see this from the Hue Web UI by going to the Oozie Coordinator and selecting an existing Workflow. This will immediately raise an exception.

See the problem when logging into the Oozie Editor/Dashboard from either CM (All Services > hue > Hue Web UI) or directly from the Hue Web UI,

Once in the Hue Web UI navigate to: Oozie Editor/Dashboard > Coordinators and try to run existing Coordinator jobs from the Coordinator Manager.

For example trying to select the existing job: cowf-test-3-copy:

1. Will raise a "Server Error (500) like:

2. If you have set the "django_debug_mode" value to true in CM  "Hue Service Configuration Safety Valve for hue_safety_valve.ini" with:

(All Services > hue > Configuration > View and Edit > Hue Service Configuration Safety Valve for hue_safety_valve.ini)

You will see an Exception like:

File "/usr/share/hue/build/env/lib/python2.4/site-packages/eventlet-0.9.14-py2.4.egg/eventlet/",line 336, in handle_one_responseresult = self.application(self.environ, start_response)
File "/usr/share/hue/build/env/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Django-1.2.3-py2.4.egg/django/core/handlers/",line 241, in __call__response = self.get_response(request)
File "/usr/share/hue/build/env/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Django-1.2.3-py2.4.egg/django/core/handlers/",line 141, in get_response return self.handle_uncaught_exception(request, resolver, sys.exc_info())
File "/usr/share/hue/build/env/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Django-1.2.3-py2.4.egg/django/core/handlers/",line 165, in handle_uncaught_exception return debug.technical_500_response(request, *exc_info)

TypeError: issubclass() arg 1 must be a class

From the Coordinator see:

NOTE: Newly created Coordinator jobs/workflows will work. Running a workflow outside of the Coordinator also succeeds.
