SES 18.104.22.168 Crawler Intermittently Appears To Hang And Only Updates The Log With Statistics Hourly

Crawler stops updating log file with any messages except monitoring type updates showing statistics hourly.
When stopping the crawler in the Admin Schedule page an out of memory error is shown.
In the Admin / Global Settings / Index Optimization page the fragmentation may be above 50%.
