Troubleshooting and Resolving Hue Service Down with "ERROR Could not bind port 8888" (Doc ID 1631378.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 03, 2022

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 2.2.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Purpose

NOTE: In the images, examples and document that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

Cloudera Manger (CM) shows that the Hue service is down on Node 4 of the cluster.  All other services are reported as being up and in "Good Health".

Hue service is down in CM:

Starting/Restarting the Hue service in CM does not bring it up.  After starting/restarting the Hue service remains down.

The purpose of this note is to troubleshoot the specific issue of the Hue port 8888 being used.  Hue could be down for other reasons.  But this note focuses on diagnosing Hue being down due to the Hue port 8888 being unavailable.  The troubleshooting steps in "Check the Hue Status in CM" and "Check the Hue logs to isolate the issue" however, would be followed to diagnose any case of Hue being down.
