How to restore a pre-12c backup to a cross-platform, cross-endian 12c database (Doc ID 1644693.1)

Goal

In 12c it is possible to restore and recover backup sets from different endian platforms without specifying additional commands than a normal restore.

As per <Bug 13335722> - Enhancement to allow RMAN conversion of backups cross-endian cross-platform, you can restore a backup (even taken from 10g or 11g source) with RMAN 12c by using the additional syntax 'restore from platform'.
