Symptoms

 Upgrading single instance database  to 11.2.0.4 in RAC environment fails with following errors.

Below errors are reported in the trace.log:

AWT-EventQueue-0] [ 2014-04-09 10:34:51.254 PDT ] [CompManager.isModeSet:9832]   Mode := 1 is set
java.lang.NullPointerException
at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbma.backend.CompManager.getInstancesSummary(CompManager.java:5704)
at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbma.backend.CompManager.getSummaryText(CompManager.java:4842)
at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbma.backend.CompManager.createPreUpgradeResults(CompManager.java:6767)
