Last updated on JANUARY 01, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.4 and later
Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 5.5 and later
Gen 1 Exadata Cloud at Customer (Oracle Exadata Database Cloud Machine) - Version N/A and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Database Service - Version N/A and later
Oracle Database Cloud Exadata Service - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

ASMCMD command will not allow any user other than the actual Grid Home Owner to run it.

Per the Oracle Documentation: Oracle® Automatic Storage Management Administrator's Guide11g Release 2 (11.2)  it is allowed to run asmcmd from other than the grid owner.

However, there is an existing bug, Bug 11907186 - ASMCMD UTILITY CANNOT BE RUN FROM DBA USERS OTHER THAN PRODUCT OWNER  that this functionality does not work.

If you see this error, then this may be the bug.
