Symptoms

INSERT into INTERVAL partition table fails with either of the following errors:

ORA-14299: total number of partitions/subpartitions exceeds the maximum limit
ORA-14300: partitioning key maps to a partition outside maximum permitted number of partitions

Prior 11.2 the errors are 

ORA-14299: total number of partitions/subpartitions exceeds the maximum limit
ORA-14401: inserted partition key is outside specified partition
ORA-14400: inserted partition key does not map to any partition
