Symptoms

Using the BY VALUES syntax to create a database link with a previously obtained obfuscated password string no longer works starting from version 11.2.0.4, the errors are:

CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK <DB Link name> CONNECT TO SYSTEM IDENTIFIED BY VALUES '<hash value>' USING '<Service name>'
                            *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02153: invalid VALUES password string

 

Changes

Upgraded to 11.2.0.4 from a previous version.
