RDBPROD: Oracle Rdb Upgrade Paths and V7.x RMU/CONVERT Restrictions
(Doc ID 190895.1)
Last updated on APRIL 14, 2022
Applies to:
Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.0 and laterHP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS VAX
Purpose
In general, it is possible to skip intermediate versions of Oracle Rdb, i.e. to go directly from an old version to a current version without installing and converting to multiple versions. Restrictions were added beginning in v7.0 for converting from very old versions.
RMU/CONVERT in Oracle Rdb 7.0.x will convert only databases already at version 5.1 or higher.
The release notes published with Oracle Rdb 7.1.0.0, 7.1.0.1 and 7.1.0.2 incorrectly state that it is possible to use RMU/CONVERT or RMU/RESTORE to convert an Oracle Rdb database from version 5.1 to version 7.1. The correct minimum version for conversion is 6.0.
RMU/CONVERT in Oracle Rdb 7.2.x will convert only databases already at version 7.0 or higher.
Similarly, RMU/CONVERT in Oracle Rdb 7.3.x will convert only databases already at version 7.0 or higher.
Scope
Only affects customers running Oracle Rdb version 5.1.x or lower wanting to convert to Oracle Rdb version 7.0.x or higher.
