Sample Query In Hue / Hive Editor Gives Write Permission Error on BDA V3.0.1 after Upgrade from BDA V2.* (Doc ID 1915168.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 11, 2019

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 3.0.1 and later
x86_64

Symptoms

After upgrading from BDA V2.* to BDA V3.* running sample queries in Hue gives write permission errors if not run as the 'hive' user:

'no write permission on /tmp/hive-hive' folder

The same query works:

1. Via hive CLI.
2. With Beeline.
3. In Hue when logged in as 'hive' user.

The problem is that all hive queries submitted in Hue write to the folder: /tmp/hive-hive, however the permissions on the directory are:

drwxr-xr-x - hive hdfs 0 2014-07-09 16:04 /tmp/hive-hive

This means that only the 'hive' user can write there and any other user writing there will fail.

It is also observed that:

1. On other upgraded clusters the permissions on the directory /tmp/hive-hive are:

drwxrwxrwx - hive supergroup 0 2014-07-28 17:07 /tmp/hive-hive

2. On some non-upgraded clusters the directory /tmp/hive-hive does not exist i.e.
