Symptoms

Upgrading from BDA 2.2.1 to BDA 2.5 on a multi-rack cluster fails on Step 1 with:

ERROR: Error code 1 when executing verifyMySQLPasswd.sh on host bdanode01-rack2 #Step 1#
ERROR: Error is : ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'bdanode01-rack2.example.com' (using password: YES) #Step 1#

Full Error output looks like:

The error is only present for the nodes on rack 2 - n.  No errors are thrown for the nodes on rack 1.

Running the failing command:  verifyMySQLPasswd.sh, on the each node of rack 1 is successful.  However running the failing command:  verifyMySQLPasswd.sh, on the each node of rack 2 - n fails.

In this case neither MySQL passwords nor the Cloudera Manager password was ever changed.
