RMAN Fails With ORA-07445 [ri_resmngr_retrieve()+96] After Upgrade To 12.1.0.2 (Doc ID 1942402.1)

Symptoms

After the upgrade to 12.1.0.2, the following error is raised while runing any type of RMAN backup to tape:

RMAN> backup current controlfile;

Starting backup at 04/11/201409:55:32
PSDRPC returns significant error 3113.
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of backup command at 11/04/2014 09:55:32
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel


The Oracle internal error in the alert log associated with the client side ORA-3113 is:

ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [ri_resmngr_retrieve()+96] [SIGSEGV] [ADDR:0x6] [PC:0x51E7C30] [Address not mapped to object] []

The error is not reported if the RMAN backup is done to disk.

Changes

Upgrade from 11.2 or 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.2.
