Hive Queries Failing or Slow During Sort phase (Doc ID 1950784.1)

Symptoms

Multiple Hive queries or Map Reduce jobs either failing or taking long time to complete during sort phase.

In Cloudera Manager(CM) --> YARN service page indicates  excessive time in garbage collection. The containers seems to be spending a lot of time in garbage collection, as a continuous garbage collection pattern (more peaks than valleys) on the NodeManager 'Time Spent in Garbage Collection' plot.
