How to Set Up Sentry RPC Service in BDA v4.0 so that it Does Not have to be Removed Prior to Upgrade (Doc ID 1955063.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 03, 2021

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.0 to 4.0 [Release 4.0]
Linux x86-64

Purpose

In v4.0 on Oracle Big Data Appliance Sentry could be added but only through "mammoth-reconfig add sentry". Sentry as a service in Cloudera Manager was not supported in v4.0. Due to this when an upgrade occurred then it was necessary to remove Sentry prior to upgrade. With the steps below it will be possible to add Sentry as a service in Cloudera Manager and it will not be necessary to remove the Sentry Service prior to upgrade from 4.0. However, there are several things that have to be done prior to installing sentry as a service.

Note: Sentry is only supported when Kerberos is enabled. Kerberos must be enabled on initial install with mammoth or by adding it with "mammoth-reconfig add kerberos" after initial installation only. Manual installations of Kerberos or with Kerberos being enabled manually connecting it to an instance of Active Directory is currently not supported. If Kerberos is not installed with mammoth future upgrades will fail and it will be necessary to remove Sentry and the manual installation of Kerberos prior to upgrade.
