Symptoms

Executing Hive queries from Hue fails with:

Exception: org.apache.hadoop.security.AccessControlException: Permission denied: user=<USER>, access=WRITE, inode="/tmp/hive-hive":<USER>:supergroup:drwxr-xr-x
hadoop-cmf-hive-HIVESERVER2-<HOSTNAME4>.<DOMAIN>.log.out.1:Caused by: org.apache.hadoop.security.AccessControlException: Permission denied: user=<USER>, access=WRITE, inode="/tmp/hive-hive":<USER>:supergroup:drwxr-xr-x
