DBLINK Connection Failed With OS Authenticaiton on Windows using Domain user: ORA-01017 ORA-02063 (Doc ID 1959626.1)

On : version, Database Security

When attempting to use a Public DB link with External OS Authentication
the following error occurs.


The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. On the TARGET and Source DB create an EXTERNAL user
2. Create a Public database link
3. try a query using the db link


sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL> create user "C001813DOMAIN\MCHARPEN"  identified externally;

User created.

SQL>  grant create session to "C001813DOMAIN\MCHARPEN";

Grant succeeded.

SQL> alter system set os_authent_prefix='' scope=spfile;

SQL>create public database link DB_TARGET using 'V11GR24';

SQL>startup force

SQL> connect /@ORCL
SQL> select sysdate from dual@DB_TARGET;
select sysdate from dual@DB_TARGET
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
ORA-02063: preceding line from DB_TARGET
