RDBPROD: Why does a HASHED ORDERED index have many index levels? (Doc ID 1969558.1)

Last updated on APRIL 18, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.0 and later
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS VAX

Goal

A HASHED ORDERED index is defined with 2 segments:

ID_NUMBER      BIGINT
SUB_ID            INTEGER

After only 10,000 rows have been loaded, RMU/ANALYZE/INDEX shows that the index has over 100 levels and using RMU/DUMP/AREA shows there are many overflow buckets.

Is this normal?
