12c Data Guard Switchover - Broker does not restart the instance if not registered with Oracle Restart (Doc ID 1969600.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 17, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 12.1.0.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

If the Primary and/or Standby databases are not registered with CRS, the Broker fails to restart the instance(s).

Changes

Starting with 12.1, Oracle implemented an enhanced API that allows the Broker to use the Clusterware to restart the instance after a switchover.

Example:

DGMGRL> switchover to <db_unqiue_name>
Performing switchover NOW, please wait...
New primary database "<db_unqiue_name>" is opening...
Oracle Clusterware is restarting database "<db_unqiue_name>" ...
Switchover succeeded, new primary is "<db_unqiue_name>"
