RMAN fails due to corruption of snapshot controflile snapcf_<SID>.f (Doc ID 2001596.1)

Symptoms

On E-Business Suite version 12.1.1, Production instance RMAN controlfile autobackup fails:

Autobackup failed with following error
ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
ORA-19599: block number 1025 is corrupt in control file /<$ORACLE_HOME>/dbs/snapcf_PROD.f

Alert log shows:

Mon Apr 20 00:03:48 2015
Hex dump of (file 0, block 1025) in trace file /u01/PROD/db/tech_st/11.1.0/admin/PROD_erpprddb/diag/rdbms/prod/PROD/trace/PROD_ora_21652.trc
Corrupt block relative dba: 0x00000401 (file 0, block 1025)
Bad header found during backing up controlfile
Data in bad block:
