How to Change the Group ID (GID) and User ID (UID) of the New DBM Services Users and Groups in Exadata. (Doc ID 2006042.1)

Last updated on MARCH 29, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version and later
Linux x86-64
Starting with the Exadata Storage Server image, the Management Server (MS) was added to the database nodes.
New users and new groups were added to manage a new Database Machine Service (dbmsrv).
This new service is based on the same Management Server (MS) that runs on the storage servers.
This new DBM service provides enhanced management capabilities to the Exadata Database Nodes.

Allow customers to change the UID and GID of the DBM users if there are conflicts with the default values or the customer is using LDAP, other directory or privileges and session management tools that require different values from the defaults.

The steps provided in this note are valid and specific to the DBM Service UID / GID ONLY.  It cannot be used to modify the UID / GID for any other Oracle products.
