How to Change the Group ID (GID) and User ID (UID) of the New DBM Services Users and Groups in Exadata. (Doc ID 2006042.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 07, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version 12.1.2.1.0 and later
Linux x86-64
Starting with the 12.1.2.1.0 Exadata Storage Server image, the Management Server (MS) was added to the database nodes.
New users and new groups were added to manage a new Database Machine Service (dbmsrv).
This new service is based on the same Management Server (MS) that runs on the storage servers.
This new DBM service provides enhanced management capabilities to the Exadata Database Nodes.

Goal

The goal of this document is to show how to change the userid (uid) of the dbmsvc, dbmadmin, and/or dbmmonitor users, and the groupid (gid) of the dbmsvc, dbmadmin, dbmmonitor, and/or dbmusers groups on Exadata Database Machine database servers.  Such a change may be required if there are conflicts between the default uid or gid values used during Exadata installation and customer directory, privilege, or session management tools (e.g. LDAP) that require different values from the default.

The steps referenced in this note are valid only for the dbmsvc, dbmadmin, and/or dbmmonitor users, and the dbmsvc, dbmadmin, dbmmonitor, and/or dbmusers groups on Exadata database servers.  Do not use these steps to modify uid/gid for any other users, servers, or products.
