MySQL replication breaks with error 1677, for example:

This can be triggered by changes such as:
- changing the default character set on either the source or the replica, but not the other
- changing the table or column definition on the replica
- changing the table or column definition on the source but not having it replicate
- creating the table with different schema on the source and replica
