Oracle Big Data Appliance(BDA) Cluster Showing Slowness Between BDA and Exadata Since Kernel Upgrade (Doc ID 2038126.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 03, 2021

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.1.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

Updated the kernels on the Oracle Big Data Appliance (BDA) cluster.

The output from imageinfo shows:

After the kernel upgrade incredibly slow speeds between Exadata and BDA are observed while querying external tables that point back to HDFS data.  The Infiniband connection speeds are observed to be drastically decreased.

On the cluster without the upgrade a query to an external table pointing back to HDFS data takes less than 10 seconds.  On the cluster with upgraded kernel it takes over 16 minutes (the query was killed at that point).

Restarting the Database on the Exadata does not help.
