How to Backup and Recover the Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (Doc ID 2048074.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 25, 2021

Applies to:

Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance Software - Version 12.1.1.1.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

This note describes the automated Recovery Appliance Backup and Recovery process.

A background process on the system backs up the necessary EM agent, OSB catalog, and Recovery Appliance catalog information (e.g. backup metadata, protected database/VPC users, protection policies, etc.).

In the event of a complete system failure, this backup is used to recover the Recovery Appliance catalog, along with all users and policies as of the time the backup was taken.

Goals of the Recovery Appliance Backup/Recovery process:

Further details:

For 12.1 based ZDLRA:

1) The export process is controlled by ra_export.pl;

This covers OSB, EM, and the ZDLRA components (non delta pool backup metadata, protected database users, protection policies, etc..)

  # /opt/oracle.RecoveryAppliance/bin/ra_export.pl
 Created ZDLRA Export /dbfs_obdbfs/OSB/ra_export/ra_backup.2015113.1237.13891.tar.gz

2) The import process is part of the racli install appliance;

Place the export bundle file provided (i.e. ra_backup.2015113.1237.13891.tar.gz) into /opt/oracle.RecoveryAppliance/import/ prior to running ra_install and all needed files will be automatically imported.

The automatic exports happen multiple times per day and the export bundles can be copied offsite from here:

/dbfs_obdbfs/OSB/ra_export/

For 12.2 Based ZDLRA:

1) The export process is controlled by ra_export.pl;

This covers OSB, EM, and the ZDLRA components (non delta pool backup metadata, protected database users, protection policies, etc..)

[root@<HOST>~]# /opt/oracle.RecoveryAppliance/bin/ra_export.pl --manual
Created ZDLRA export /raacfs/raadmin/ra_export/ra_backup.2019313.1341.333165.tar.gz
[root@<HOST>~]#

2) The import process is part of the ra_install.pl;

Place the export bundle file provided (i.e. ra_backup.2019313.1341.333165.tar.gz) into /opt/oracle.RecoveryAppliance/import/ prior to running racli install appliance and all needed files will be automatically imported.

The automatic exports happen multiple times per day and the export bundles can be copied offsite from here:

/raacfs/raadmin/ra_export/

For 19.2 Based ZDLRA:

1) The export process is controlled by ra_export.pl;

This covers OSB, EM, and the ZDLRA components (non delta pool backup metadata, protected database users, protection policies, etc..)

[root@<HOST>~]# /opt/oracle.RecoveryAppliance/bin/ra_export.sh --manual
Created ZDLRA export /raacfs/raadmin/ra_export/ra_backup.2019313.1341.333165.tar.gz
[root@<HOST>~]#

2) The import process is part of the racli install appliance;
