How to Set the Cloudera Manager Rack Parameter Name on the BDA V4.2 and Higher After Rack Expansion (Doc ID 2060108.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 23, 2017

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.2.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

This note explains how to set the Cloudera Manager rack parameter name on the BDA V4.2 and higher after a rack expansion.

Consider the scenario:
1. A 6 node Starter Rack is expanded to 12 nodes on the same rack.
2. The first 6 nodes are found to have a Cloudera Manager rack parameter of "/<cluster-name>".
3. The new 6 nodes are found to have a Cloudera Manager rack parameter of "/default".

The question is since all 12 nodes are now on the same rack should they all have a Cloudera Manager rack name parameter of"/default", or all "/<cluster-name>", or something else.
