Oracle Data Files should not be placed on the +RECO ASM diskgroup (Doc ID 2074156.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 17, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version to [Release 11.1 to 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

If after an upgrade from a version of Exadata less than to a version of Exadata software of and above the Oracle Database performance is degraded for any database where some or all datafiles are on the +RECO disk group, then the performance degradation may be due to the cachingPolicy atribute of the ASM diskgroup changing from "default" to "none", thus disabling the use of Flash Cache for Data files places on the +RECO ASM disk group.

The customer changed Exadata Software version from below to, by migrating from an X2-2 to an X5 machine. The same symptoms would be seen in any case where the change in the software version was from below to or higher.
