Oracle Big Data SQL Queries are Significantly Slower in Secured (Kerberos Enabled) Clusters (Doc ID 2084024.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 01, 2015

Applies to:

Oracle Big Data SQL - Version 2.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

On BDA V4.3 with Oracle Big Data SQL (BDS) V2.0 a simple query like: 'select count(*) from bds_tab;', is significantly slower in a secured i.e. Kerberos enabled cluster.
Smart Scan is not running on the secured cluster.

For example, the same query output looks like:

1. On a Kerberos secured cluster:

cell XT granules requested for predicate offload 5
cell XT granule bytes requested for predicate offload 1229833293
cell interconnect bytes returned by XT smart scan 0
cell XT granule predicate offload retries 15

2. On a cluster without Kerberos:

cell XT granules requested for predicate offload 5
cell XT granule bytes requested for predicate offload 1229833293
cell interconnect bytes returned by XT smart scan 94060544
cell XT granule predicate offload retries 0
