Why disk space would be needed more than table size while altering table?

Goal

During an online DDL operation, temporary tables may or may not be created. It depends on commands and how tables are changed. Sometimes DMLs can be allowed, sometimes not.

Learn how much space would be needed to alter table with example of adding a column. (e.g. add column, In-Place?=Yes, Rebuilds Table?=Yes)
