GIMR fails to create on ZFS NFS (Doc ID 2087596.1)

Symptoms

1) Installing or upgrading to 12.1.0.2 Grid Infrastructure (on Solaris Sparc), OUI plugin fails to create Grid Infrastructure Management Repository (aka GIMR):

[INS-20802] Creating Container Database for Oracle Grid Infrastructure Management Repository failed

 2) The oraagent log file was showing that the processes waited 10 mins before starting GIMR timedout and so the operation was aborted:

3)  The trace file for DBCA was showing the DB as not available:

4)  The alert for the instance shows the GIMR was stopped with 'Shutdown Immediate':

Shutting down instance (immediate)

5) Eventually we found that creating an init file and attempting to start the instance using SQL*Plus was hanging, while accessing the spfile, created previously by DBCA.

6) Even running 'strings spfile' was hung.

7) Customer was using a ZFS storage as the NFS server.
