ORA-01017: Invalid Username/password; Logon Denied On Both ASM And DBMS Instances after reboot caused by SSSD and NSCD services interferences (Doc ID 2112532.1)

In this case an Exadata compute node running as standby did not startup the database. It also showed that the RDBMS could not connect to ASM because of ORA-01017
On the system the services NSCD (name service cache daemon) and SSSD (System Security Services Daemon) were both installed and running with default configuration.

Symptoms

 Trying to start the instance with srvctl leads to:

 

 Comparing the two traces one may see that the connection fails if nscd is used and it is successful if nsswitch.conf is used instead.

Changes

 The storage server has been upgraded with newer rpms and the machine rebooted.
