Last updated on DECEMBER 27, 2019

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.4.0 and later
Linux x86-64

NOTE: In the examples that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

Upgrading to BDA V4.4 fails at Step 3 due to one node failing to start its associated roles/services. For example the node's DataNode will not start causing the hdfs service to be in concerning health and the node's NodeManager will not start causing the yarn service to be in concerning health. The roles can be started but then fail with the error:

Caused by: GSSException: No valid credentials provided (Mechanism level: Failed to find any Kerberos credentails)

1. Trying to regenerate the Kerberos credentials for the principal: hdfs/ in Cloudera Manager:

Administration > Security > Kerberos Credentials > Select hdfs/ > Regenerate Selected

does not resolve the error.

2. Trying to "Regenerate Keytab" within CM from:

hdfs > Instances > Select DataNode for the host > Actions for Selected > Regenerate Keytab

does not resolve the error.
