Access to the Root Directory Fails with "Read-only file system" Errors (Doc ID 2135323.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 27, 2019

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.4.0 and later
Linux x86-64

NOTE: In the examples that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

On BDA V4.4 OL6 the following symptoms are observed on one node of the cluster, which in this case is Node 5.

1. Running "bdacli disable bdc" fails with an error on Node 5:

INFO: Please get the Big Data Appliance cluster diagnostic bundle at /tmp/bdadiagcluster_<EPOCH_TIMESTAMP>.zip
scp: /opt/oracle/BDAMammoth/bdaconfig/tmp/ Read-only file system
ERROR: Update imagehistory failed

2. It is observed that on Node 5 where BDD is installed, that /bdd is not  accessible.

3. Even a simple command like belong fails on Node 5 because "/" appears to have become a read-only filesystem.

indicates that mdadm crashes and that there are inconsistencies on the '/' and '/boot' partitions.
