Symptoms

When starting MySQL with the mysqld_safe script you receive the following error:

If using the systemd or INIT service startup scripts, MySQL does not start and no error is logged in the MySQL error log.

Changes

Installed or upgraded to MySQL 5.5.45 (TAR.GZ builds), 5.5.50 (RPM builds), 5.6.31, or 5.7.13 or later.
