BDA Node Expansion to Add a Reimaged Node Back into the Cluster fails with Invalid UUID (Doc ID 2143855.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 28, 2020

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.2.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

NOTE: In the examples that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

The symptom is that running the command to add Node 6 back into the cluster (with -g to single-step through the phases) fails at Step 9, InstallHadoop. The failure looks like:

1. From the file: /var/log/cloudera-scm-agent/cloudera-scm-agent.log, it is observed that the Node 6 cloudera-scm-agent, is up, but not heart-beating into the CM node, Node three.

2. On Node 6 the file: /var/lib/cloudera-scm-agent/uuid exists but is empty.
