Symptoms

On Exadata with Big Data SQL installed accessing a Hive external table fails with:

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEOPEN callout
ORA-29400: data cartridge error
KUP-11504: error from external driver: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:
org.apache.hadoop.hive.serde2.lazy.LazySimpleSerDe.initSerdeParams(Lorg/apache/h
adoop/conf/Configuration;Ljava/util/Properties;Ljava/lang/String;)Lorg/apache/ha
doop/hive/serde2/lazy/LazySimpleSerDe$SerDeParameters;

 

 Querying the underlying table from the Hive CLI succeeds on the BDA.
