Last updated on MAY 03, 2021

Applies to:

MySQL Server - Version 5.7 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In MySQL 5.7, there is a new variable internal_tmp_disk_storage_engine.
If internal_tmp_disk_storage_engine is set to InnoDB (default from 5.7.5), it will create under data directory, a tablespace (ibtmp1) which can be defined as "auto extend", but it can´t be shrinked without restart the server.

How can this tablespace size be handled?
