Installing/Deinstalling One-Off Patch 23763068 Required for BDA V4.5 Node Migration/Reprovision on Oracle Big Data Appliance Cluster V4.5.0 OL 6.7 Proactively with Mammoth or Reactively with Manual Steps (Doc ID 2165198.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 15, 2023

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.5.0 to 4.5.0 [Release 4.5]
Linux x86-64

Purpose

NOTE: On BDA 4.5 there is an updated patch: 25208064 RESTARTING CLUSTER FAILS DURING NODE#4 MIGRATION (Patch), which supersedes the original patch 23763068.

On BDA V4.5.0, it is necessary to download and apply the patch 25208064 before node migration/reprovision. This is a cumulative patch addressing several node migration and node reprovisioning issues on BDA v4.5.0 .

This note: Installing/Deinstalling One-Off Patch 23763068 Required for BDA V4.5 Node Migration/Reprovision on Oracle Big Data Appliance Cluster V4.5.0 OL 6.7 Proactively with Mammoth or Reactively with Manual Steps (Doc ID 2165198.1), can be followed except that the newer patch should be used.

On BDA V4.5 server resiliency i.e. node migration/reprovision/decommission/recommission requires the One-Off Patch 23763068 for OL 6.7 in order to complete successfully.

This document provides instructions on how to install One-Off Patch 23763068 on an Oracle Big Data Appliance V4.5 OL 6.7.

Note, applying a patch with 'mammoth -p <patch#>' can only be done on a healthy cluster (i.e. one which is not in the middle of any other bdacli/mammoth action).   If the patch is applied proactively to a healthy cluster i.e. one that is not experiencing any immediate server outage it can be applied using the standard Mammoth V4.5 Software Deployment Bundle approach with "./mammoth -p  22145943".  However, if this patch needs to be applied reactively due to a failed server where node migration/reprovision/decommission/recommission needs to take place then the patched files must be applied manually.  In this case, copy the files individually on Node 1 of the cluster (either the original Node 1 or the Node to become Node 1) and then proceed with migration/reprovision/decommission/recommission.

This note details how to apply the One-Off Patch 23763068 on an Oracle Big Data Appliance V4.5 OL 6.7 proactively using the Mammoth V4.5 Software Deployment Bundle with "./mammoth -p 22145943" or  reactively using the manual approach.

Scope

This document provides instructions on how to install One-Off Patch 23763068 on an Oracle Big Data Appliance V4.5 OL 6.7 cluster either proactively before a server failure or reactively after a server failure.
