Applies to:

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a 12.1.0.2 database, the following DML

UPDATE table_name SET xmltype_column = XMLTYPE(:B2 ) WHERE ID = :B1

Fails with

ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [LpxMemFree()+300] [SIGBUS] [ADDR:0x3050000030A] [PC:0x10B7BA22C] [Invalid address alignment] []

The call stack is:

----- Call Stack Trace -----
LpxMemFree <- LpxFSMTerm <- XmlEvDestroyPPCtx <- qmxFreeEventCtx <- kolaceFree
<- kolaFree <- kolttfr_ed <- kolredurHashMapCbk <- kgghstmap <- kolredur
<- kohdee <- kohedu <- kpmdurend <- kxsdmc

An INSERT can also fail with ORA-7445[LpxMemFree], and the call stack is

----- Call Stack Trace -----
LpxMemFree <- LpxFSMbufFreeInput <- LpxFSMTerm <- XmlEvDestroyPPCtx
<- qmxFreeEventCtx <- kolaceFree <- kolaFree <- kolttfr_ed <- kolredurHashMapCbk
<- kgghstmap <- kolredur <- kohdee <- kohedu <- kpmdurend <- kxsdmc <- kxsFreeWorkArea
