RDBPROD: TERMINATE IMAGE option in RMU/SHOW STAT creates DBR and database freeze (Doc ID 220441.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 6.1 and later
HP OpenVMS VAX
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS Itanium

Symptoms

You are trying to use the RMU/SHOW STATISTICS, Tools menu, TERMINATE IMAGE  option.

The RMU/SHOW STATISTICS, TERMINATE IMAGE documentation states the following:

This option terminates a database image with the following exception:

"%RDMS-F-IMGABORTED, image aborted at privileged user request".

Note that the process itself is not terminated, only the image is terminated.

This is the preferred operation as this operation does not cause the database to be frozen during
 process recovery.

You attempt to terminate a long-running process using the TERMINATE IMAGE option so that a DBR process is avoided and the database freeze lock is not requested.

The long-running process has not completed an SQL statement.

However, a database recovery (DBR) process is created and the database freeze lock is taken out.
