Symptoms
Precompiling a Pro*C program on Linux appears to hang. Checking the process via the ps command shows that it is not hanging but continuing to clock up CPU, with memory usage increasing rapidly. Left long enough it will use all available system memory and eventually be killed by the kernel.
Running the pstack command against the spinning process shows varying stacks where the bottom part is always:
